Marketers and advertisers today are swamped with data. Data is at once enabling more targeted/better performing advertising while simultaneously bringing down creativity via over-optimization during the early stages of developing a marketing campaign. Data is something we need and hate in modern marketing.
We make decisions when we have the data that shows us the likelihood of failure, or the benchmarks were going up against. But data can be faulty or unkempt and so our assumptions are also erroneous, positioning data as a true hindrance, rather than a hastener of action.
